SNOWPIERCER - 60-second Trailer and 3 Featurettes
A new trailer and three featurettes have been released for director Bong Joon Ho's new film Snowpiercer. The trailer gives us lots of new footage from the post-apocalyptic thriller, and each featurette starts with a ten second clip.
Snowpiercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.
The featurettes cover characters from the different sections of the train and include interviews and commentary from the cast and crew. The interviews offer some great new character info as well insight into the casting of the film. The only catch with the commentary from the Korean cast and crew is it's in Korean with no English subs! Luckily, I just so happen to speak Korean, so I've translated and summarized the important bits.

Featurettes:
Front of the Train
Mason - Tilda Swinton
- The director describes Tilda Swinton as the most dynamic and chameleon-like character in the film.
- He reveals that they originally envisioned Mason as a male character, but changed the gender of the character for Swinton.
Classroom Teacher - Alison Pill
- After Alison Pill's comments, Bong Joon Ho says, "In a way, the concept for the 'Wilford Children'…" and he never finishes the thought! That, or my Korean sucks.
Wilford - Ed Harris
- The director says that there are so "many different twists and turns all the way to the end" that casting this particular character wasn't easy.
Back of the Train
Curtis - Chris Evans
- Bong Joon Ho on people's expectations of Chris Evans: "For all of you who only remember Chris Evans from Captain America and The Avengers, when you watch this film I think you'll be quite surprised."
Gilliam - John Hurt
- The director describes this character as an old but wise old man.
- Bong goes on to say that John Hurt was the only actor he thought could play this role.
Edgar - Jamie Bell
- The director describes both the actor and the character as a shadow that is always dangling over Chris Evans' shoulder. He is small in stature and never complains.
Tanya - Octavia Spencer
- She is described as the embodiment of the feelings and position of the commoners on the train.
Andrew - Ewen Bremner
- Described as another character who represents the common people. Like Tanya, Andrew is trying to rush to the front of the train to find his own son.
Prisoners
This focuses on the Korean actors in the film. The first few comments are just about the train being a crucial part of development, and that this movie feels like coming back home for the director.
Namgoong Minsu - Song Kang-ho
- The rebels have to rely on this character, who is described as being "very erratic and strange."
Yona - Ko Ah-sung
- Described as being "slightly peculiar."
- Ko Ah-sung reveals that since the character was born on the train, she has a much different nature or instinct than the others.
- Bong Joon Ho ends with saying that it'd be "10 times more lonely" if the Korean actors weren't there.
There's still no US release date set for the film, but it opens in Korea on August 1. To see the previously released trailer, footage, and posters, click here.
