First Look at Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson in OUT OF THE FURNACE

These photos give us our first look at Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson in the upcoming thriller Out of the Furnace. This will be Bale's first film since The Dark Knight Rises.

The story follows Russell (Bale) and his younger brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) who live in the economically-depressed Rust Belt, "and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast - a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother."

The movie was directed by Scott Cooper, and also stars Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Sam Shepard, and Zoe Saldana. Here's what the director had to say in a statement,

"You often find superheroic people wearing capes and costumes in film today. But working-class Americans are the real heroes. This is the story of this man who works in a blast furnace, but with themes of justice, retribution and courage."

Bale went on to talk about his character and working on a steel furnace,

"Russell is not of that personality, nor does he wish to be. But he finds himself having to confront these people in order to do the right thing. He's only got his own fortitude and will power, nothing else.
It's long hours, unhealthy conditions and intense heat. It's dangerous work. The guys had recently lost a friend who had died on the job. But there's a great bond. And they have a love for it, despite the hardships."

This sounds like it will be a great movie.
