Guillermo del Toro on Connecting JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK to MAN OF STEEL
As most of you already know, Guillermo del Toro is in the process of developing his Justice League Dark film that brings together DC comics supernatural and mystical characters such as John Constantine, Swamp Thing, the Demon, Deadman, the Spectre, and Zatanna. One of the last things we heard was that the film would be called Dark Universe.
While making the press rounds for Pacific Rim he was asked by MTV if he would consider making his Dark Universe an installment in a larger DC cinematic universe, and he seemed open to the idea.
"I think the great thing about the 'Dark Universe,' you have this possibility of basically creating a supernatural group, and you can play by different rules, but I would love to see the DC Universe become as cohesive as the Marvel film universe. So if there's any correlation, I will honor it."
Whatever the studio ends up doing with their DC universe, I really hope they decide to move Dark Universe into production when it's ready. Del Toro is still working on the script, and he's still waiting on a screenwriter to become available to work on it. He was then asked about the Hulk TV series he was working on, and if Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D kind of killed it. Sounds like it did,
"I have no idea, I literally just stopped hearing from them after the movie opened. I would call to see what's going on they said we're looking for this, or we're waiting for that, and it kind of just faded away."
That's a shame. I would have loved to see this Hulk series happen. As awesome as Marvel is at developing their films, they are a little weird when it comes to their TV develoments, especially with animation.
Who knows? Maybe we'll get an update on the development from some of these projects at Comic-Con.
