SDCC 13: THE LEGEND OF KORRA, BOOK 2

TV Comic-Con by Mily Dunbar

So here's the deal, I don't watch Korra, and I don't know a ton about it. But I happened to see the first episode of Book 2, and it looks really good. Funny and charming with a totally engaging story. Good call on loving it, you guys. I don't want to give everything away, and I don't know everyone's names, so I apologize in advance.

Korra is continuing her training with the air bender dude. Her trainer is pretty strict, which annoys her, and his brother is now constantly around to let her off the hook, which annoys him. She returns to her home in the south for a major festival, which Korra is looking forward to, as it is always a bunch of fun. Also visiting is her uncle, the chief of the water benders, who lives in the North. He is basically Captain Condescension and thinks the South has abandoned their spiritual heritage. The festival used to be a solemn occasion to commune with the spirits, and is now basically a carnival. He is clearly agitating to disrupt/take over Korra's training, and even though he seems even less fun than her father and her trainer, Korra is intrigued by the idea of traveling for her training instead of staying near home. Also of concern is a series of spirit attacks on ships and later on the festival. As the Avatar, Korra is the link to the spirits, and according to her uncle, her spiritual training is woefully lacking.

It looks like Book 2 is going to be about Korra branching out. There are also 2 sets of brothers (her father and uncle and her trainer and his brother) in near constant conflict over Korra's training, which is a kind of interesting dynamic. The original Avatar from 10,000 years ago will be back somehow, and two writers from the original Avatar series, Josh Hamilton and Tim Hendrik, have joined the team to guide us through this season.

The Legend of Korra: Book 2 premieres sometime in September, and I think I'll be tuning in!
