28 MONTHS LATER is Being Discussed by Alex Garland and Danny Boyle
I really enjoyed the zombie apocalypse films 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. Danny Boyle directed the first film from a script written by Alex Garland, but they weren't really involved with the sequel other than being executive producers. For those of you who are also fans of the franchise, you'll be happy to hear that Garland and Boyle have been discussing a 28 Months Later sequel! Garland revealed the news in an interview with IGN, saying:
"We've got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated."
It's good to know that the conversations have been serious! That's a good sign, but the complications are not. So why is it complicated?
"There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into, but there’s a possibility."
At least he's being optimistic and keeping that possibility alive. He goes on:
"It’s more likely to be 28 Months than 28 Years. 28 Years gives you one more place to go. 28 Decades is probably taking the piss."
So it does sound like there's a possibility that we could get one or two more films. I really hope they can work through whatever complications there are, so they can at least get one more movie made. I doubt Boyle would come back to direct it if it does happen, but it would be pretty rad if he did.
