5 Things I Would Love To See From Telltale and Marvel

A while back, Telltale games and Marvel announced an upcoming partnership on a new series. While we don’t know anything more than the fact that it exists, it's always fun to speculate. We probably won’t hear anything until E3, though even then I’d be surprised since Marvel is currently in the midst of its touted "end all be all" event in Secret Wars. In the meantime, I’ll get the armchair quarterback train rolling with some ideas on what Telltale and Marvel could do together.

Here are 5 things I would love to see:

Age of Apocalypse

This might sound obvious, but obvious ideas aren’t necessarily bad ones. Age of Apocalypse is one of the most popular alternate realities that Marvel has ever created, and even pre-Secret Wars this timeline has been revisited time and time again. It is rife with possibilities and heart-wrenching moments that Telltale is known for, and with so many mutants involved in the storyline, Telltale would have an endless amount of wiggle room to work with.

Reason it might not happen: Fox owns the movie rights to the X-Men. While that doesn’t preclude Marvel from using the characters in a video game, they just don’t seem that eager to do the X-Men movie verse any favors until the rights return home.

Shadowland

Daredevil has been restored to respectability with Marvel and Netflix’s recent TV series, so why not capitalize on that by focusing on him and all of Marvel’s street level characters? Shadowland involved a laundry list of people, including Elektra, Luke Cage, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, White Tiger, Iron Fist, Moon Knight, and many more. Above all, it was a pretty compelling story, though due to some possible conflicts of interest it might need a bit of tweaking story-wise. Telltale could really let loose here, as most of the characters involved have enough emotional and mental baggage to start selling them as a collection on QVC.

Reason it might not happen: Well, spoiler alert here, but the story doesn’t paint DD in the best light, and he happens to be the villain throughout most of it. Granted, it's not necessarily all his fault, but they probably don’t want to paint him in such a negative light right after the show has garnered such a strong following. Still, it could be fantastic.

S.W.O.R.D.

Truth be told, I don’t even care how she gets involved, I just want her part of the story. Agent Brand is all kinds of awesome in anything she stars in, and would be a welcome addition. Oh, and second that for Amadeus Cho. Ooooh Ooooh, and Squirrel Girl.

Reason it might not happen: Because no one bought the S.W.O.R.D. miniseries. Humbug.

Double O Marvel

While there might not be a Black Widow solo film yet, there has been a great Black Widow ongoing for quite a while now. Why not expand that to include the spymaster side of the Marvel U? This setting would allow the developers to live in the grey area of right and wrong that they seem to covet, and could include some great characters like Mockingbird, Jessica Jones, Spider-Woman, Hawkeye, Winter Soldier, Maria Hill, Deathlok, Ronin, Cloak and Dagger, etc.

Reason it might not happen: This group of characters would be extremely compelling, and it would give us something that centers around Black Widow, but Disney and Marvel can’t seem to ever get the hint that people want more of her, so I'm not that hopeful. That said, it really should happen. Telltale would knock this out of the park.

Heroes For Hire

If you’re looking for a team or a concept that can spotlight relatively unknown characters, but also allows unlimited flexibility, look no further than Heroes for Hire. Aside from Luke Cage and Iron Fist, Telltale could have a ball with bad ass but often overlooked characters like Misty Knight, Shang Chi, Colleen Wing, and Black Cat. They could also throw in people like Cloak and Dagger, Moon Knight, etc, for good measure, since those are characters that could easily fit into this type of format. This could be a bit more lighthearted romp through the Marvel Universe, which Telltale proved they could do with their recent Borderlands series.

Reason it might not happen: Same as before, but this concept would allow you to put a bigger name in the mix to bring some attention to it.

Those are just a few ideas, but we would love to hear yours as well!
