8 Young Actors Who Are Testing For The POWER RANGERS Movie
Lionsgate is currently deep in the process of casting the lead roles in their upcoming Power Rangers movie. Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is set to direct the feature, and he's currently testing eight young and upcoming actors who will possibly star in the movie.
According to Variety, the actors include Daniel Zovatto (It Follows), Ross Butler (Chasing Life), and Brian “Sene” Marc for the character of Zack a.k.a. the Black Ranger. Then we have KJ Apa (Shortland Street), Austin Butler (The Shannara Chronicles), and Mitchell Hope (The Descendants), who are testing for Jason a.k.a. the Red Ranger. The site's sources also claim that Naomi Scott (The Martian) and newcomer Stephanie Scott (Ant-Farm) are up for the role of Kimberly a.k.a. the Pink Ranger. (The Wrap's Jeff Sneider says The Way Way Back and Soul Surfer star AnnaSophia Robb is also in contention for the Pink Ranger.)
Apparently the studio is looking for fresh new faces for the Power Rangers team and that they might be looking at a big name star to play the villain in the films. As of right now, no offers have gone out to anybody. I'm not really familiar with most of these actors or their work, so I won't really know if they are good choices until after I see them in action if they are cast in the movie.
The story that the film will tell reimagines the origins of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, who are a group of high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and unite to save the world, with the aid of giant mechanical vehicles known as Zords.
