ABC Picks up Marvel's AGENT CARTER and Renews AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

ABC has announced that they've ordered a full season of Agent Carter, the series based on Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers' love interest in Captain America: The First Avenger. The network has also renewed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a second season. There are no surprises here folks. Of course ABC was going to pick these shows up. Everything Marvel is gold right now.

THR reports that the Hayley Atwell (Captain America) will reprise her role as Agent Carter. They also say that the show is set a year after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger, and the story follows Carter as she builds her career as a secret agent while Captain America is frozen in ice. Here's a more detailed summary.

"The story is set in 1946 and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life -- Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, along with the short Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter."

This sounds like it could be a very intriguing and fun series. The script was written by the Captain America team Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley. So we know the writing is going to be decent.

According to inside sources, this will be a "short-order series and likely used as a 'bridge show' to air during the second season hiatus of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, with both series ultimately being tied-in together."

I'll also remind you that the studio is currently prepping to shoot their four new series for Netflix… Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage, which will all lead to a Defenders movie. I'm excited for everything that Marvel is doing. I love the universe they are building, and I really hope that they can keep pumping out solid entertainment.
