Adam McKay in the Running to Direct Every Marvel Film

Adam McKay got involved with the Marvel universe when he was hired to rewrite Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man script alongside Paul Rudd. The movie looks fantastic, and it seems like McKay really hit it off with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. The studio really wants to work with the writer/director again, and in a interview with Collider, Feige said that the director is in the running for all Marvel movies.

“Adam McKay is in the running for everything. Adam McKay is a great, great writer and director. He did an amazing pass on the Ant-Man draft with Paul Rudd for us, and I didn’t know him before then. And we got to know him through that and liked him very much, and have met with him a number of times trying to find something else, so we’ve talked about a lot of characters with him.”

So far the remaining films in Phase 3 that don’t have a director include Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and Inhumans. So it could be any of those, unless they wait until Phase 4 to bring him in. I’m sure that they’ll get a woman to direct Captain Marvel so we can probably count that one out. That leaves us with Black Panther and Inhumans. I’d say the latter is the most likely candidate, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

The rumored logline for Inhumans says that it’s about “a group of people that are given powers only to discover they might be part of an alien race.” When Feige was asked about that he replied:

“Well I’d say that’s relatively fair, but that’s not official. I’ve never seen that as an official logline.”

If you’ve been watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. then you know that that’s basically the direction they are taking things. It will be really interesting to see how the series leads into the movie, if they even make it that far. The movie is set for release on July 12th, 2019.
