Alicia Vikander Says Her TOMB RAIDER Offering a "Fresh" Take on Lara Croft
I'm a big fan of Alicia Vikander, and I love that she will be taking on the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider movie. This film will be a reboot of the film franchise, and it will focus on a much younger version of Croft.
It's been said in the past that the film will be loosely based on the 2013 video game from Square Enix, which focused on the origin of the character. It will “tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure.” We've also heard that it will be inspired by Raiders of the Lost Ark.
In a recent interview with Hitfix, Vikander talked about the project and said she hopes it will offer a fresh and new take on the franchise.
“They told me they were doing the film based on the reboot of the game from 2013. That is more of an origin story. You get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara hopefully in an in-depth way. So I hope that doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that’ll stand on its own two legs.”
Like the rest of us, Vikander was a fan of the game as a kid and when talking about that and reminiscing on the days that she played it she said:
“I, with the rest of the world, was excited to see a female protagonist in a video game. I was a bit scared playing it when I was 12, 13. I had to go take little breaks."
She's going to be great in this film! She has previously starred in Ex Machina, The Danish Girl, Burnt, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and the next film we see her in will be Jason Bourne. Tomb Raider is set to be released on March 16th, 2018.
Are you looking forward to seeing Vikander in the iconic role of Lara Croft?
