Animated SPIDER-MAN Feature Film Coming in 2018!
We have some more exciting Spider-Man movie news for you! Sony Pictures has announced that they will be developing a animated feature film based on the webslinger! The news gets even better, as they've hired The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller to write the treatment for the film and produce it.
Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman revealed the big news at CinemaCon in Las Vegas today, saying that the movie will be released in theaters on July 20th, 2018. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal were also announced as being producers on the project.
In case you're wondering, the animated movie will not be connected to the live-action Spider-Man universe that Marvel and Sony are currently developing. I've always thought that Spider-Man would work great as an animated movie, so it's really cool to see that it's happening.
I hope this ignites some interest in Marvel to develop animated movies of their own as standalone films not connected to the MCU. Hopefully, we will see that happen one day. Disney did it with Big Hero Six, but Marvel wasn't really a part of that.
