AVENGERS 3 May Not Include Captain America, Thor, or Hulk
Over the weekend a very interesting rumor hit the internet that suggests all of the main characters from the Avengers team that we've come to know and love, including Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and Black Widow, will not be involved with Avengers 3.
Apparently the success of Guardians of the Galaxy helped the studio realize that their brand is big and popular enough that they can introduce secondary characters and turn them into big stars. Phase three of Marvel will introduce audiences to characters such as Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, maybe Mrs. Marvel, and a few others. Will these characters be taking over for the Avengers?
Last week a rumor hit that Marvel would be splitting Avengers 3 into two movies, and according to Badass Digest, this could be true in a way. They explain, "Marvel isn't splitting Avengers 3 into two movies, but they are planning Avengers 3 as the springboard to... something else. And they're going to use their biggest characters in that something else, keeping them out of Avengers 3."
All of the secondary characters that will be introduced in phase three could come together and prove their badassery as a team in Avengers 3 without the help of the usual suspects. It may even help in setting up spin-off movies for other characters that could be introduced in the movie. Of course, they will most likely keep Iron Man because Robert Downey Jr. is already contractually obligated to appear in Avengers 3. But it could serve as a launching pad for new characters to take over since a lot of the actors' contracts will be up after the movie.
The report goes on to say how easy it would be to write these characters out. "Cap will be very busy with the fallout of Captain America 3, and I wouldn't be shocked to see Steve Rogers give up the shield at the end of that movie. Thor 3 is going to wrap up all the Asgardian drama, and could very well end with Thor forced to sit on his father's throne. Black Widow is easy to write out on another adventure. Hulk... well, Hulk's planet of residence could well be up in the air by 2018 or so."
The site then offers up some intriguing speculation that I could see happening. They say, "What if the big guns sit out Avengers 3 so that Marvel can bring them in for a crossover movie? A huge, all-franchise crossover that could be called Marvel's Infinity Gauntlet or Marvel's Secret War? What if Avengers 3 isn't the conclusion of the Thanos story but just the spark that ignites it in the massive crossover film that brings all the Marvel characters — TV included — together in one film? That's the sort of next-level thinking we expect from the House of Cinematic Ideas at this point."
Reading that made me swell with excitement. That would be incredible if it happened, and I seriously hope that it does! If it doesn't, I'm sure Marvel is planning something equally awesome. We still have a long way to go before any of this is set in stone. It's just something that is being discussed at the moment. If they do move forward with something like this, Marvel will redefine the way blockbuster movies can be made… again.
