AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Confirmed to Unite the Marvel Universe to Battle Thanos
A lot of Marvel fans have been wondering if the characters in Guardians of the Galaxy would be included in the story for Avengers: Infinity War. This is a subject matter that James Gunn has been very quite about, and Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo won’t really give a straight answer either, but they did give a very interesting hintduring an interview with ComicBook.com.
The directing duo was asked if they have had any discussions with Marvel about bringing the Guardians heroes into Infinity War, Joe said:
“That is another one that we would have to reserve as a surprise, but we will say this: People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie. The concept of Infinity War is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you’ve ever seen, and we’re going to honor that concept.”
It's great to hear that the Marvel universe will unite in this movie! The way that he’s talking here, it sounds to me like there’s a strong possibility we could not only see the Guardians show up to help fight the threat of Thanos, but this could this also mean that we might see the characters from the Marvel Netflix series' as well, such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Punisher? I hope so! That would be just as exciting! The fact that he says he wants to reserve this for a surprise is kind of another hint. If these characters aren’t in it, why just not say no!? Saying no wouldn’t spoil any surprises, but saying yes would!
Joe went on to talk about taking Avengers: Infinity War to a more cosmic place than the Avengers have ever been before. This movie won’t be as grounded as the Captain America films they have made, but is will have a “psychological realism":
“Yeah, we certainly have. I sat in the theater and watched Empire Strikes Back seven times in a row when I was a kid. Yeah, we're science fiction fans as well, Dungeons and Dragons. We collected all the books when we were kids. We had figurines. Anything that you could think of that has to do with fantasy or sci-fi or superheroes was in our universe. We're just going to approach the cosmic side with the same fervor that we did the earthbound work we've been doing. We also are going to work really hard to bring a psychological realism. We obviously can't bring a naturalism to it because it doesn't really exist outside of science fiction, but we can bring that psychological realism to it, to the characters, and that's going to be our focus.
"Also, it's going to be our focus to explore the cosmic side, applying the same rules that we like to apply to the last two films that we've done. It ends up being the rules of physics always apply or apply as much as we can get them to apply based on what we're doing.”
Sounds to me like they are building up to something freakin’ epic! I can’t wait to see what it is!
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is set to be released in movie theaters on May 4th, 2018, and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
