AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Directors Say Hawkeye's Story is a "Long Play" and Why I Think He's a Badass

It's kind of funny to see all the attention that Hawkeye has been getting for Avengers: Infinity War even though we haven't even seen him in any of the promo material. His absence in the marketing film actually turned out to be the best kind of marketing for the character! All of the fans are talking about him and wondering what is going on with him. There is a power in the mystery that surrounds the character.

During a recent interview with JOE.ie, director Joe Russo talked about Hawkeye's absence in the marketing and explains that the story that they've come up with Hawkeye is a "long play". He says:

"We keep saying, 'Patience is a virtue.' We did not forget the twice-nominated Jeremy Renner. We cooked up a story for him that is a little bit of a long play. Not a short play."

Director Anthony Russo added, "All will be revealed." In a previous interview, the Russos offered a little more of a tease regarding Hawkeye, saying:

"Coming out of Civil War, he’s in the same position that Cap and Falcon are at the end of that movie. And Ant-Man. Coming into this movie, you know… Characters on Cap’s side coming out of the Civil War, some made certain decisions and others made other decisions that led to different paths in them dealing with oversight in this movie in a different way. So Hawkeye’s on his own journey in this movie."

I think it's safe to say that Infinity War won't feature much of Hawkeye. I think that there will be just enough of a set up to lead the character into Avengers 4, which is where I think the character is really going to shine.

I know that not a lot of people care about Hawkeye, but you can't deny that the guy is a badass! Like Black Widow, he doesn't have any superpowers like most of the other characters in the MCU, but he stands with them and holds his own when he fights alongside them.

Hawkeye puts in everything he's got for this team that he's a part of! And the fact that he has a family means that he is the one hero out of all of them that has the most to lose. He is making the ultimate sacrifice being a part of the Avengers. That is what makes him such a powerful member of the team. The guy has heart and will do everything he can to save the world because, in all the effort and energy that he puts into saving the world, he is saving his family.

That being said, I can't wait to see where his journey takes him.
