Bad Robot Developing A Film About Thomas Edison at Paramount
J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions has a very strong track record when it comes to making movies. They've been responsible for Joy Ride, Mission: Impossible III, Cloverfield, Star Trek, Morning Glory, Super 8, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, and Star Trek Into Darkness so far, and they also have a little film called Star Wars: The Force Awakens coming out this year. Now we can add one more movie to their upcoming slate: The Wrap reports that the company is developing a movie about inventor Thomas Edison.
Edison, of course, invented the motion picture camera, the record player, a long-lasting light bulb, and about 1,000 other things over the course of his career. There aren't any details about this film project at the moment, other than the fact that the film "will depict the legendary inventor as a rugged eccentric genius." The report notes that The Weinstein Company also have an Edison biopic in development, so we'll see which of those studios beats the other to the punch on this. Could there be dueling Edison biopics in theaters at the same time, sort of like how The Prestige (in which Edison was an unseen villain) and The Illusionist came out in the same year? With the fierce competition in Hollywood, I wouldn't be surprised at all.
