BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Star Richard Hatch Passes Away at 71
Richard Hatch, the actor who played Captain Apollo on the original Battlestar Galactica series in the late 1970s and also appeared in Ronald Moore's SyFy remake in the 2000s, has passed away.
Hatch has been battling pancreatic cancer, which ended up being his cause of death. According to Variety, he died in Santa Clarita, California, with his son Paul by his side. In a statement, his manager Michael Kaliski said:
"I will always remember him fondly for his inspiring sense of youthful wonder, his boundless passion for creative expression, and his huge, kind heart."
Moore also offered his thoughts on Hatch:
:Richard Hatch was a good man, a gracious man, and a consummate professional. His passing is a heavy blow to the entire BSG family."
I've had the privilege of meeting and talking to Hatch on various occasions over the years while attending conventions. The guy always seemed to make himself available to his fans, which was always cool.
Hatch’s acting career all started on the soap opera All My Children in 1971. Over the years he's appeared in several projects that include, Hawaii Five-O, CHiPs, Fantasy Island, Dynasty, Murder She Wrote, The Love Boat, T.J. Hooker, Baywatch, and MacGyver. He also wrote five Battlestar Galactica novels.
Hatch seemed like a great guy and will be missed. Our hearts and prayers will be with his family and friends.
