Ben Affleck’s BATMAN Solo Film Rumored to Be Set in Arkham Asylum
An interesting new rumor has surfaced regarding the Batman solo film that Ben Affleck is in the process of developing. This is just a rumor, so until there’s any official news on this, treat it as such.
The following information comes from some reliable sources for Batman-on-film. They claim that the the movie will be set in Arkham Asylum, which would obviously be an insane setting for the Dark Knight! They also report that plot will involve Batman actually being locked up in Arkham.
They don’t offer any details other than that. We don’t know why or how that would happen, but it sounds like they will be taking a cue from the popular video game franchise. The news does in a way coincide with a previous report that the film will be crammed with villains. According to that report:
"Many, if not most, members of Batman's rogue's gallery will be making appearances in the film. It's going to be crammed with Bat villains, which means that just about every major bad guy you've ever wanted to see in a movie will be in this movie. According to my sources Affleck and Geoff Johns, who has been working with him on the film, want to make the definitive Batman film. They want to tell the ultimate Batman story, and to do so they're going to bring in all the big guns. They're going to have a big, sprawling Bat universe already in place."
In my opinion, the best way to cram so many villains into a Batman story would be to have Batman locked up in Arkham with them. I doubt this would be a direct adaptation of the game franchise, but if this is all true, it will obviously be inspired by it, and they could also find inspiration in Grant Morrison’s Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on a Serious Earth.
I love the thought of seeing Affleck’s version of Batman kicking ass in Arkham, so it'd be great if these rumors are actually all true. Affleck is co-writing the screenplay with Geoff Johns, and I hope whatever they end up doing turns out to be awesome. We’ll just have to wait and see.
