Ben Affleck's LIVE BY NIGHT Officially Greenlit, Starts Filming in November
Before he was cast in David Fincher's Gone Girl and Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Ben Affleck was riding high on his Argo Oscar win and was looking to direct a film adaptation of Dennis Lehane's Live By Night. After all, it was Affleck's adaptation of another Lehane novel, Gone Baby Gone, that gave him legitimacy as a director and breathed new life into the second phase of his career. He was sidelined by other work and had to put Live By Night on hold, but now Variety reports that Warner Bros. has given the movie an official greenlight and set production to begin in just a few months.
Elle Fanning, Zoe Saldana, and Sienna Miller are still attached to co-star with Affleck in the Prohibition-era story of a character named Joe Coughlin, "who rebels against his cop father and becomes a career criminal, eventually joining a mobster. He rises up the ranks as the action moves [from Boston] to Tampa, Fla., then Cuba and features rumrunners, femme fatales, betrayals and good men committing plenty of sin."
I'm totally on board with this project. Sounds like a no-brainer to me, and I can't wait to see what Affleck does with it. No word yet on if the prior release date of October 7th, 2016 will hold true, but we'll keep you posted when we find out.
