BIRDMAN Featurette Explores the Single-Take Illusion

One of the more intriguing aspects of Alejandro González Iñárritu and Michael Keaton’s Birdman was the fact that it looks like the whole film was shot in a single take. Of course it wasn’t really shot in a single take, but the illusion of it is still incredibly cool.

In an accompanying interview with Thomopson on Hollywood, cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki pointed out something that that I didn’t notice that was kind of awesome.

“There was something that we did that nobody has mentioned: the labyrinth of corridors shrink and shrink as the movie progresses and Riggan’s level of stress and insanity grow. We narrow the width of the corridors and the ceilings come closer. We didn’t want to do it in a way that looked too strange but it’s something that you feel.”

Birdman was one of my favorite movies of the year, and I loved how the movie came together. If you were a fan of it as well, this is a featurette that you’ve got to check out.
