BRAVE Director Brenda Chapman Helming PETER PAN and ALICE IN WONDERLAND Crossover Prequel
I thought Pixar's Brave was ambitious and interesting if not outright successful when it came out a few years ago, and now that movie's co-director, Brenda Chapman, is heading into the live-action realm for her newest fairytale film.
Deadline reports that Chapman will make her live-action feature directing debut with Come Away, a film that serves as a crossover and prequel of Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland. Rookie writer Marissa Kate Goodhill wrote the screenplay, and here's the premise:
Before Alice went to Wonderland, and before Peter became Pan, they were brother and sister. When their eldest brother dies in a tragic accident, they each seek to save their parents from their downward spirals of despair until finally they are forced to choose between home and imagination, setting the stage for their iconic journeys into Wonderland and Neverland.
Weirdly, it doesn't sound like movie is being developed at Disney. How is that possible? Well, technically Peter Pan and Alice are both now in the public domain. I'm sure Disney's not thrilled about that, especially since they have Alice Through The Looking Glass coming out and are presumably looking to continue that film series, and the studio is also developing its own live-action Peter Pan film.
But here's the question: do you think a crossover prequel between these characters is a story that's begging to be told? I'm not so sure, but I'm interested to hear your take in the comments below.
