Brie Larson Replaces Emma Stone in Tennis Film BATTLE OF THE SEXES
Brie Larson seems to be on the precipice of stardom. She's already beloved in some circles for her work in Short Term 12, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Community, and 21 Jump Street, and she has the astounding-looking Room coming up as well as a lead role in Kong: Skull Island and parts in Triple Nine and Free Fire next year. In other words, she's about to blow up.
Now Variety reports that Larson is taking over for Emma Stone in Battle of the Sexes, a film about the iconic 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. Steve Carell is playing Riggs, while Larson will step into the role of King since Stone had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) wrote the screenplay, and Little Miss Sunshine directing duo Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris are directing.
It would have been cool to see Carell face off against his Crazy Stupid Love co-star, but it's hard to complain when Larson joins a project because she's so consistently great. I'm looking forward to this one.
