Channing Tatum is Learning Card Tricks For GAMBIT

With Magic Mike XXL hitting theaters this week, Channing Tatum has been making the press rounds, and there’s been some talk about his Gambit project. We’ve heard that A-list directors keep passing on his film (but Rupert Wyatt will direct), that it will offer us a Gambit origin story, and that we will not see the character pop up in X-Men: Apocalypse.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Tatum's producing partner Reid Carolin spoke a little bit about Tatum's preparation for the film, and reveals that he has been learning some real card tricks with a real magician in order to make his turn as Gambit more convincing.

“Last night we were with my friend who I went to college with, this guy David Kwong who is an incredible magician and he was teaching Chan how to throw cards and do sleight of hand and all that, so we’re producing that.”

Throwing cards is obviously a huge deal when it comes to Gambit, especially when they are kinetically charged! It would make sense for him to learn some slight of hand as well, that could easily be used by the character to impress the ladies.

If you’re not familiar with who Kwong is, I included a TED talk below that he did about magic and crossword puzzles.

I think this standalone Gambit movie has lots of potential to be great. Hopefully Tatum can pull off the kind of movie that he is hoping and planning for. 20th Century Fox has Gambit slated for release on October 7th, 2016.

David Kwong is a magician who makes crossword puzzles - in other words, a pretty nerdy guy. And for his next trick ...
