Chris Hemsworth vs. Whale in Trailer For IN THE HEART OF THE SEA

Chris Hemsworth takes on a giant whale in director Ron Howard's upcoming period thriller In the Heart of the Sea. The story is inspired by the true story of the whaling ship Essex, which was attacked by a sperm whale in 1820. After the ship was destroyed, the crew was stranded in the middle of the ocean for 90 days. The whale was only the first of many challenges the crew would face. This is the story that led to Herman Melville‘s creation of Moby Dick

We have a third new trailer for you to watch today, and this movie looks incredible. It looks like it could be one of Howard's most visually stunning films. On top of that, it looks insanely intense! The movie also stars Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, Tom Holland, Brendan Gleeson, and Jordi Molla. Here's the official synopsis:

In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story. “In the Heart of the Sea” reveals the encounter’s harrowing aftermath, as the ship’s surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

The movie is set to be released on December 11th.
