Colin Firth May Return For KINGSMAN 2
(Major spoilers for the first Kingsman film ahead.)
I really enjoyed Kingsman: The Secret Service, Matthew Vaughn's send-up of spy movies that is currently in theaters. You can read my full review here. Vaughn's been talking about the idea of a sequel, but one thing I didn't expect was for Colin Firth to return in any capacity. He was great as Harry Hart, and I'd love to see more of him, but it seemed pretty clear that he was shot in the head by Valentine in the first movie.
Vaughn spoke with USA Today about the possibility of Firth returning:
“A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment. If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back.”
“The sequel will be ‘This is the modern-day gentleman spy.’ Because Harry isn’t. Harry even says, ‘There is a reason why we’ve developed weak chins.’ He said that meaning, ‘Look at us, we need to get new blood into this system,’ and that’s what Eggsy is. I joke that we’ve made the prequel to the Eggsy movie.”
Hey, if Phil Coulson survived what appeared to be a fatal stabbing in The Avengers, I suppose just about anything is possible. But it would take some serious explanation as to how Hart survived a headshot in a parking lot to convince fans that he's still alive. And this is assuming A) a Kingsman sequel is even greenlit in the first place, which it currently hasn't been, and B) that Firth himself would sign on to reprise his role. So there's a lot that remains up in the air at the moment, but I think everyone who saw Kingsman - which should be everyone, because it's great! - would be down to see more of Firth kicking ass.
