Conspiracy: What If DC is Intentionally Sinking ARROW To Bring Stephen Amell To The DC Films?

Bear with me here, because I'm gonna sound like a crazy guy who has a tin foil hat on when I'm saying this...but what if DC wants Arrow to fail?

I know the show sucks. You know it sucks. The cast knows it sucks. Even the official subreddit has become a meme center for how bad the show is.

So what went wrong? How can a show that started with two successful seasons which spurred several other superhero television shows get so far off track — especially when it's entirely clear what the audience wants? If the Arrow writing staff has no clue, here's what everyone wants:

  • More action
  • Less Olicity

Literally, you could just NOT make the show about Oliver and Felicity's relationship and people would come back. It's gotten so bad, it makes me wonder if DC actually wants the show to come back at all...

...and then a lightbulb went off.

Could DC be subtly trying to sink Arrow to free Stephen Amell up for the DC film universe? It's no secret they are not afraid to sacrifice television for the film side of things.

They teased Harley Quinn for the Arrow version of Suicide Squad and then nixed her because Harley Quinn was going to be in Suicide Squad:

And if you'll remember, they also killed Deadshot...once again because of Suicide Squad.

And how can we forget the killing of Amanda Waller...WHO WAS A MAJOR ANTAGONIST IN THE SERIES, getting killed off with zero fanfare in a throwaway episode...what film was that for?

Now that we've established that Movie DC > TV DC in the minds of executives, we ask the question...why Stephen Amell? Would he play the Green Arrow?

To answer the first question, Stephen Amell has a star power that the formerly-snubbed DC actors don't have. I love Grant Gustin and he is my Flash, but there's no disputing his 785,000 Facebook likes over Amell's 5 million +. Whether you want to admit it or not, Amell is the biggest star out of all the DC TV franchises.

That star power will put geeks in seats at the theater. Admit it, you were a little more interested in the second Ninja Turtles when you learned he was involved:

The only other actress on that level in the DC franchise is Melissa Benoist (who was in Glee and had a small role in Whiplash), but Stephen brings the geeks, which is why DC would want him in their films.

But would they really want him as the big screen Green Arrow? Two to three years ago I would've said yes, and I think Amell would've agreed. There was heavy speculation and some hints dropped by Amell at that time that he was in some sort of discussion or at least petitioning to be included in the DC films.

Now? With the current state of Arrow, it's a safe bet we won't be seeing the character outside of the show anytime soon (but Amell has expressed interest in wanting to play a Batman villain).

I think the real question is would Amell willingly sink the quality of his show to make the jump into DC films, and the answer to that is a resounding NO.

This Facebook statement is important. This was made by Amell at what many would proclaim as the show's peak, during season 2. This statement was also made in regards to various rumors floating around Hollywood that Amell would be leaving the show to go on and be a part of the DC movies. Obviously, it's clear from his statement that Amell, while flattered and happy about the fact he could be considered for a Hollywood feature, was not about to abandon a show that "kicked ass."

Nine months later we got season three, which managed to take something as awesome as Ras Al Ghul and just s*** on it. The whole season was a mess with too many plot lines that are no longer relevant. They pretended Oliver was gonna die in the midseason finale because they thought that was a good cliffhanger, and then Oliver defeated Ras, got the ring, and then was like "Nah, I'm retiring," and gave it to his arch enemy because he's an idiot.

It was a completely off the rails change of pace. Seriously, watch all the awesome setup they had at the end of season two and how they used none of it for season three.

Of course, the show only went further downhill from there, and Amell is aware of it. And while he's dedicated to the show, he more or less admitted he checked out for season four and was going to be more vocal for season five

Am I saying that Arrow was made to suck shortly after Amell announced he wouldn't leave the show while it was running? Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

It's crazy, I know, but the history is there and like most hair-brained conspiracies, there are some coincidences that support it. Am I fully convinced of the theory? I'm not fully convinced (mainly because I don't want my ass blasted across the internet), but I will say if Arrow was cancelled after this season, I guarantee there would be a discussion to include Amell in the DC films in some way the day after. I think WB wants it...just on their terms.
