Cool Superhydrophobic Street Art Comes to Life When It Rains

ArtVideos by Koren Butkovich

Imagine you’re upset because you have to walk through the rain to get to a certain place and you come across art on the sidewalk that only comes out when it rains. That would brighten anyone’s day, right? I hate the rain more than anything, but I know this would brighten my day.

Because of Peregrine Church and his company, Rainworks, who have created something called superhydrophobic coating, which is cement art that only comes out when exposed to water, we now have something to look forward to when it comes to rainy days. Church isn’t the original inventor of the coating, but he did help popularize it by using it as a spray along with stencils.

So next time it’s raining, keep a look out for this amazing art form.

When we started this project, we never IMAGINED that it would grow to become what it is today. We were just 2 kids with a crazy idea, sneaking around Seattle in the middle of the night. And now, people all over the world are creating their own rainworks. It's completely mind-blowing...
