Daisy Ridley Explains that Luke Skywalker Doesn't Meet Rey's Expectations in STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI

Judging from the little bit that we've seen and heard of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it's hard to tell what this older version of the character will be like. We know the character has changed over the years, and one thing is for sure, this isn't the same Luke Skywalker that we last saw in Return of the Jedi

We really have no idea what he's gone through over the past 30 years, but it doesn't seem like it's been a good experience. He's not very optimistic about life and the future, especially when he says something like "it's time for the Jedi to end."

In a recent interview with MTV, Daisy Ridley explains that Luke doesn't meet Rey's expectations, saying:

"There were all these expectations on Luke right from the beginning — this is your calling, this is what you have to do, you have to train. And then clearly something's taken him away. In a way, they're both similar, but she's very much looking up to him to be this thing that she thinks he is, and a long time's passed."

It sounds to me like maybe Luke has lost his faith and purpose and those things have to be reignited in him again. He clearly doesn't live up to the legends and stories that Rey heard about him when she was growing up. It's basically one of those experiences where a person meets their hero for the first time, and they turn out to be a major disappointment.

We have no idea what Luke's story arc will be in the film, but we know it's going to be big! I can't wait to see what director Rian Johnson has created for us!
