DAREDEVIL Showrunner Marco J. Ramirez to Write AKIRA Script

The live-action adaptation of Akira that Warner Bros. has been developing for years is still alive and kicking. They just won't give up on the project regardless of all its issues! THR is reporting that the studio has hired Daredevil Season 2 showrunner and writer Marco J. Ramirez to write a new script for Akira. He was also a writer on the FX show Sons of Anarchy.

Judging from what Ramirez has done, he seems like he's a talented individual. I just don't know if WB knows what they want from this movie. If they did, it would have been done already. Andrew Lazar (American Sniper) and Leonardo DiCaprio’s shingle Appian Way are producing the adaptation, and it will be interesting to see if Ramirez will deliver a script that is to everyone's liking.

The film almost went into production with director Jaume Collet-Serra at the helm back in 2012. Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe, and Helena Bonham Carter were all in various stages of talks at the time. It was the closest the film ever was to getting made, and the studio pulled the plug on the project due to issues involving casting, the script, and the budget.

I know it's possible to make an amazing live-action of Akira. I just don't think Warner Bros. is the studio that can effectively make it happen. The fact that it's been in a failed state of development after all these years proves that. Do you think Ramirez is the key to getting this production off the ground? Or do you think this is just going to be another failed attempt to make it happen?
