DC Announces SUPER HERO GIRLS Full-Length Animated Film with Trailer
Over the weekend, I posted an article that introduced you to an animated web-series called DC Super Hero Girls. This is something my kids made me aware of that they enjoy watching. I’ve since learned that DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. animation are now developing an animated feature film, which is not only based on the web-series but also a toy line.
The movie is called DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year, and it features DC characters such as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumblebee, Poison Ivy, and Katana as they come together to try and survive the struggles of high school. Mary Ellen Thomas, WBHE Vice President, Family & Animation Marketing, said this in a statement:
“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is thrilled to team with DC Entertainment to release DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year on DVD. We’re excited to bring DC Super Hero Girls to life and create an immersive world to help inspire young women like never before. These characters were developed with girls 6-12 in mind and will deliver epic story lines featuring strong females. It truly embraces and celebrates girls as they discover their own unique abilities.”
This Super Hero Girls franchise is pretty cool, especially given the fact that it’s targeted to little girls like my daughters who are looking for this kind of thing to watch. As a geeky dad, it’s fun getting into conversations about these characters with my kids! Then I can be like, “Now, you’ve gotta check out this other series I grew up with called Batman: The Animated Series which has some of these characters you like and a lot more!”
You can watch the trailer for the animated movie below. DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year will be released digitally on August 9th, with a home video version on August 23rd.
