DC Comics’ SCALPED Will Be Adapted into a TV Series
WGN America is looking to develop a new series based on a DC Comics property called Scalped. They’ve ordered a pilot episode and have brought Geoff Johns along for the ride as executive producer.
Scalped was created by Jason Aaron and illustrator R.M. Guera and is described as “a modern-day crime story set in the world of a Native American Indian reservation. It explores power, loyalty and spirituality in a community led by the ambitious chief Lincoln Red Crow, as he reckons with Dashiell Bad Horse who has returned home after years away from the reservation.”
The comic was published by Vertigo in 2007 and was partly inspired by the 1975 arrest of Native American activist Leonard Peltier. For those of you not familiar with the story of Peltier, he was arrested for the slaying of two FBI agents in a shootout on an Indian reservation.
Doug Jung (Banshee) has been hired to write the script for the pilot, and he is also an executive producer. According to insiders, WGN America is eyeing an all Native American cast, which would be pretty damn awesome.
DC Entertainment is on a roll with developing solid TV series, and Scalped will join the party which already consists of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Gotham, and the upcoming NBC comedy series Powerless, starring Vanessa Hudgens. I think Scapled has the potential to be one of their best.
