Disney Planning Live-Action Film Based on NIGHT ON BALD MOUNTAIN
Disney is taking the coolest and darkest sequence from their 1940 animated classic Fantasia, “Night on Bald Mountain,” and adapting it into a live-action film.
The "Night on Bald Mountain" segment of the film revolved around a nightmarishly creepy dark winged and horned creature with yellow glowing eyes. The demon seems to rule the night over a town and raises spirits from the dead to enjoy a night of mayhem, dancing, haunting, and flying through the air. As the sun rises, the ghostly madness fades away.
This first time I saw this sequence I was overcome with fear and excitement. I had never seen anything like this before. I had never seen any kind of horror animation before, and when I was a kid it fascinated me. Of course the music played a big part in scaring the hell out of me. It was created by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, and arranged for the film by Leopold Stokowski.
Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless will write the script for the project, which is currently in early development at the studio. I hope they do a better job with this than what they did with Dracula Untold. There’s no information on what the story will entail, but you can see what’s inspiring it in the video I included below.
This could make for an epically awesome movie. Seeing those haunting visuals brought to life in a live action movie could look absolutely stunning. Hopefully they bring on a great director who has the talent to give us something amazing.
