Disneyland's Star Wars Land Expansion Layout Shown in Map and New Details Revealed
Disneyland has officially started the construction of Star Wars Land, which was announced last year at Disney's D23 Expo. The expansion will include 14 acres of unused space, and we've only seen a few pieces of concept art for what fans can expect to see. We now have a map that shows us the layout of Star Wars Land that shows us where all the attractions will be, and it shows us just how big that the expansion is going to be. It will be the biggest freakin' land at the theme park! It looks so big compared to the rest.
The map comes from MiceChat, who claims that Disney is hoping to open Star Wars Land sometime in 2018. The site talks about what we can expect to see:
"The final layout of the land has a northern and western perimeter walled off from the outside world by massive show buildings over 150 feet tall that will push right up against the existing toll lanes and tram route that parallels Disneyland Drive. Built to look like sheer rock cliffs and forested mountains from inside the land, the show buildings will be partially sunk into the ground yet still tower overhead. The largest show building in the land, for the headliner battle escape attraction coded named “Alcatraz” at WDI (get it?), will dwarf even the largest backstage buildings for Anaheim’s other massive E Tickets like Pirates, Indy or Radiator Springs Racers."
That Battle Escape Attraction sounds like it could be amazing! Hell, it's bigger than freakin' all of Toon Town! There will be three entrances to the land: from Big Thunder Trail, another from where Big Thunder Ranch used to be, and one by the Hungry Bear Restaurant. The site also offers some info on what we will see when entering Star Wars Land:
"The reveal moments from the two tunnels off the Big Thunder Trail will be the most architecturally stunning, while the winding path through the forest north of Critter Country will be memorable for the sudden appearance of X-Wing fighters parked on rocky ledges and landing pads as you enter the alien land from the west. The goal here is to meet or exceed the Wow! moment that people experience when they walk through the archway into Cars Land from the Pacific Wharf area."
I seriously can't wait for the day when I actually get to go to Star Wars Land. You can bet I'll be spending the whole day just exploring it and having fun...with my family, of course! Making Star Wars also offers up some rumored information on what the land will entail. Here is the information that they have to offer:
Poe Dameron’s black X-wing fighter will greet guests at the 3rd entrance to Star Wars Land, although an Episode VIII feature to the fighter might make it different from what we know about it from The Force Awakens.
Characters and creatures from Star Wars: Episode VIII will be featured in the park.
The Falcon will be real, life sized, not scaled down at all, and sitting on top of a launch pad.
The Falcon will be opening and closing its main door and aliens/ troopers will be walking around asking people if they’ve seen anyone leave the ship.
There will be two major attractions, one larger than “Toon Town” itself.
Don’t worry about not being able to go inside the Falcon. One of the major attractions will take care of that for you as you fly in the cockpit of the freighter itself.
The word is the Imagineers loved the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story script, but if that will come into play is still hazy. Initial word was the second major attraction would feature Rogue One content, but now that appears to be somewhat unlikely.
A full scale life-size Millennium Falcon!? And there's an attraction where you get to fly in the cockpit!? Star Wars Land can't get here soon enough!
