Early Concept Art For GHOST IN THE SHELL Shows Margot Robbie as Major
Early on in the process of developing Ghost in the Shell, Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie was in the running to play Major. This would've been an interesting choice, but the role ultimately went to Scarlett Johansson, who I thought was awesome in the role. I know the movie is getting a lot of hate but I actually loved the movie! it's a shame that it didn't do better at the box office. It was such a visually stunning film and it also had the solid story to go with it.
Anyway, some early concept art has surfaced for the film showing us how they visually envisioned Margot Robbie as The Major in her thermoptic suit. The art you see here was created by Jeff Simpson and Nivanh Chanthara. When talking about the art Simpson said:
"I spent a tiny amount of time doing pre-production work for the new Ghost in the Shell. These were done back in 2013? 2014? When Margot Robbie was gonna be the lead. Only spent a few days on it, but it was fun."
Chanthara's art came with the following note:
"At this time, the project wasn't even greenlighted and Margot Robbie was considered for the role. It was an incredible rush and one of the first time I had to produce so much in a very small period of time."
Check out the collection of art below and let us know what you think. Would you have liked to see Robbie in the role of Major?
