Elisabeth Moss Stars in QUEEN OF EARTH Trailer, Returns For TOP OF THE LAKE Season 2
Now that Mad Men has come to an end, it'll be interesting to watch the cast members go their separate ways and branch out into different genres of film and television. Kiernan Shipka has a sci-fi superhero movie coming out soon, Jon Hamm has a cool-sounding thriller on the way, and now Elisabeth Moss is making her own plans for the immediate future.
First up, she's starring in a film called Queen of Earth opposite Inherent Vice and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them star Katherine Waterston. That film opens on August 26th, and a new trailer for movie has just dropped. It looks...well, check it out for yourselves:
And after that, it was recently announced that Moss will return for the second season of Jane Campion's Top of the Lake, the 2013 detective series from Campion and Gerard Lee. If you haven't seen it, it's definitely worth a watch, though don't go in expecting a happy-go-lucky romp through New Zealand. There are gorgeous visuals and some stunning cinematography, and Moss's performance is superb, but there's also some really dark sh*t in that show, and I'm wondering how her character will be able to move forward in another season.
Campion will return to direct some of the series (a second director is TBA), and Moss's character will head to Sydney, Australia to tackle a new murder investigation. I've seen some reports indicate that the show will also be set in Hong Kong, but I'm guessing that's just a mistranslation (the original report said the show will be set in Sydney and later referenced "the Harbour City," which I think is their way of saying Sydney again but some people are saying that means Harbour City, Hong Kong). Either way, filming begins in December and I'm glad Moss is returning to play this character once again. I'm excited to see what Campion does with the second season after her work on the highly-acclaimed first season.
