Extended Edition of THE HOBBIT Trilogy Coming To Theaters This Year
As someone who thinks Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy is absolutely terrible for innumerable reasons, this sounds like pure nightmare fuel for me: FilmDrunk points us to the news that extended editions of all three movies are heading to theaters in October.
Fathom Events and Warner Bros. are partnering to present the extended editions of all three Hobbit movies. Shown over three nights, the epic Peter Jackson trilogy will be the first time the extended editions have ever been released in theatres. Also included will be an exclusive introduction by director Peter Jackson. First night showing starts Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. local. Tickets will be regular-admission price for each movie.
Dear God, why? I know some of you would probably commit murder just to return to Middle-Earth one more time, but The Hobbit films were already stretched too thin in their theatrical versions and that story never should have been a trilogy in the first place. I can't comprehend the idea that people would want even more of this story. The only way I can think that it might, maybe be even remotely acceptable is if every single additional minute features Martin Freeman's Bilbo, who was totally shafted in his own trilogy. But even then, you'd still have to sit through the excruciating tedium of watching everything else.
Here are the run times (via /Film):
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – 182 minutes (theatrical: 169 minutes)
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – 186 minutes (theatrical: 161 minutes)
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – 174 minutes (theatrical: 144 minutes)
Hell no.
