Ezra Miller Talks About Being Cast as THE FLASH

One of the most surprising bits of major superhero movie casting was the announcement that Ezra Miller would play The Flash in Zack Snyder's Warner Bros./DC cinematic universe. As far as Miller's filmography goes, I've only seen The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and while he was fine in that movie, I didn't see anything in that performance that indicated he's the right guy to play the Scarlet Speedster on the big screen. But like I said, I've only seen one of his films, so Snyder certainly knows something I don't.

While at the Sundance Film Festival promoting his new film The Stanford Prison Experiment (read our review here), Miller spoke with MTV and revealed the surreal experience of being cast as The Flash.

He seems like sort of a strange guy from that video, but that mountain air and lack of sleep can do weird things to people at Sundance, so we'll forget about that for now. In case the video doesn't work for you, here are the highlights. Miller received a call from his agent while he was in Costa Rica, and then:

“He says, ‘I have Zack Snyder on the phone, and he wants to talk to you about this DC Universe thing,’” Miller recalled. “And so [Snyder] got on the phone, and he’s just gung ho. He’s in it. He’s completely involved. And he starts talking about how I’m going to play The Flash. And I was just in this state of shock and disbelief.”

From the way he's describing it, he makes it seem like he didn't even audition for the role - Snyder just randomly calls him out of the blue to pitch the concept of the DC Universe to him and cast him on the spot. That seems incredibly unlikely to me, and I'm not sure why he would tell the story with that implication. And since there are still a few more years before he'll get suited up for his solo adventure (which is slated for a 2018 release), he reveals that he's not quite on the starting blocks yet:

“I’m not running yet,” he said. “Right now, I’m still in the stretching phase. I want to stretch for a while.”

What do you think about Miller playing The Flash?
