FANTASTIC BEASTS Sequel Officially Announced and David Yates Is Returning to Direct
Warner Bros. has officially announced that they are moving forward with a sequel to the Harry Potter spinoff film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. J.K. Rowling is writing the script and director David Yates is returning to helm the film. The studio even set a release date of November 16th, 2018!
Even though Fantastic Beasts hasn't even been released yet, I'm sure fans of the Harry Potter franchise will be excited to hear the news. I am! The studio even offered us a brief plot summary teasing the story for the sequel. It reads:
The second Fantastic Beasts movie moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.
We already knew there would be a series of these Fantastic Beasts films, and Yates previously talked about the script that Rowling was writing for the sequel:
“We’ve seen the script for Part 2, for the second movie, which takes the story in a whole new direction – as you should, you don’t want to repeat yourself. The second movie introduces new characters as she builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. It’s a very interesting development from where we start out. The work is pouring out of her.”
The sequel sounds quite intriguing. It's kind of hard to comment on what might happen in it since I haven't even seen the first movie yet, but it's exciting to have confirmation that the story will continue.
Oh, yeah! A third Fantastic Beasts movie is also set for release on November 20th, 2020.
