FANTASTIC FOUR Rumored to Be Back at Marvel With a Movie Planned for 2020
A huge rumor has hit the internet that claims the rights to Fantastic Four are back at Marvel and that the studio is planning a film for 2020. This news originated at Den of Geek, but there's no confirmation that it's true. If it is true, it could be a huge deal.
Just yesterday we learned that Marvel and Fox have teamed up to create two X-Men-themed TV series called Hellfire and Legion. According to the site's sources, Fantastic Four was a part of that deal.
Fox were given the TV rights for X-Men in exchange for Fantastic Four. The deal's been in the works for some time we're told. Further, the timing of Marvel's recent announcement of its movie slate leading up to the year 2020 and the X-Men TV series is no coincidence.
I previously said in the rant I wrote up that Marvel should use the X-Men series as leverage to get the Fantastic Four rights back, and now it looks like that's actually how it all played out. The report goes on to reveal that Marvel also got the rights back to Galactus, Doctor Doom, and The Silver Surfer.
If this rumor does turn out to be true, it's the smartest decision that Fox could have made. The fans will trust the Fantastic Four property in the hands of Marvel, and the 2020 date gives us enough time to get the bad taste out of our mouths from this year's Fantastic Four reboot. It would also be so cool to see these characters join the MCU.
This is really exciting stuff, and I'll be pretty bummed if it turns out not to be true. I will fight Den of Geek if they are lying to us!
