Felicity Jones Says Her ROGUE ONE Character Jyn Erso Was Inspired By Ripley From ALIENS

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is slowly but surely sneaking up on us. This is my most anticipated film of the year and everything that I've seen from it so far has absolutely thrilled me. I honestly don't want to see any more of the film until it's released, but when Lucasfilm does release a new trailer and promo spots and a bunch of clips, of course I won't be able to contain myself. Plus it's my job to watch them, so...you know, I don't really have a choice.

I was a big fan of Felicity Jones before she was even cast in Rogue One as the main character Jyn Erso, who will lead a small band of Rebels on a mission to steal the Death Star plans from the Empire. Jones looks awesome in this role and it seems like she is the perfect fit for it.

During an interview with Yahoo, Jones spoke about her character and revealed that Jyn was inspired by Sigourney Weaver's Ripley in Aliens

"Well, it’s interesting because I didn’t know [when shooting A Monster Calls] that I would be playing Jyn, who is very much inspired by Sigourney’s character [Ripley] in Aliens. So it’s interesting that we had worked together. But I’ve been so inspired by her work and she was a role model growing up."

Jones went on to explain a little bit as to why Ripley was her inspiration in bringing the character Jyn to life:

"Obviously, you have different references that you look at. And I love the qualities that she brought to that part. And early on in my research it was one of the films that I watched that informed my process."

Ripley certainly is a badass character so it completely makes sense that she would serve as the inspiration for another badass female character. The actress went on to briefly talk about what she thinks fans will love about the rebel characters in the story, saying:

"I think you’ll love all the rebels. Because they’re flawed. They’ve all had histories, they’ve all had their own struggles, and I feel like people are going to really champion them and fall in love with them."

I've already liked what I've seen of these characters and I'm excited to see how each of their story arcs play out throughout the film. Some of those characters include Diego Luna's Captain Cassian Andor, Riz Ahmed's Bodhi Rook, Donnie Yen's Chirrut Imwe, Jiang Wen's Baze Malbus, and Alan Tudyk's droid character K-2SO.

Rogue One hits theaters on December 16, 2016. To catch up on all of our previously released news on the film, click here.
