Fox Is Interested in a FIREFLY Revival If Joss Whedon Wants to Do It
Ever since Joss Whedon's Firefly was prematurely canceled there's been a lot of talk regarding a revival or Serenity sequel. At least a couple times a year there's some kind of report about Whedon, Nathan Fillion, and the other actors being asked if it could ever happen.
No one has ever said it won't happen. It's just one of these things where there would have to be a perfect storm of things to happen before there was any kind of movement. Most everyone involved with the original series are keeping busy doing other projects.
With revival series on the rise with series such as The X-Files, Prison Break, Twin Peaks, Full House, Gilmore Girls, and more, it seems like there's more of a chance of seeing a revival for the sci-fi western happening. Fox is definitely keeping an open mind about it, and they are actually open to it!
Fox Broadcasting President of Entertainment David Madden recently talked about it in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes. He told them that he would consider doing it if Whedon wants to do it.
So now it all falls on the shoulders of Whedon, who has been insanely busy the past few years making Avengers films for Marvel. So the big question is... does Whedon want to do it!? If so he better let Fox know! Three years ago, Whedon said:
"I've said repeatedly that I would love to make another movie with these guys, and that remains the case. It also remains the case that I'm booked up by Marvel for the next three years, and that I haven't even been able to get Dr. Horrible 2 off the ground because of that. So I don't even entertain the notion of entertaining the notion of doing this, and won't. Couple years from now, when Nathan [Fillion]'s no longer [on] Castle and I'm no longer the Tom Hagen of the Marvel Universe and making a giant movie, we might look and see where the market is then."
Well, now that he's done with Marvel and Castle isn't on Fillion's plate anymore, maybe something could happen! Firefly could come back as a movie or a limited series, I don't care. Either one would be great! I would just love to see these characters come back together at least one more time for a wild adventure.
