GAME OF THRONES Showrunners "Not Interested" in Helming Prequel Series
While whispers of Game of Thrones prequels and spin-offs continue to stir around Hollywood, its current showrunners would like to dismiss any notion that they will be a part of them. TVLine says David Benioff and D.B. Weiss responded with the following when asked about the possibility of a prequel:
“You might want to ask George about that...It’s a great world that George created. It’s a very rich world. I’m sure there will be other series set in Westeros. But for us, this is it.”
As for creator George R.R. Martin, he didn't say no, but he did say it's not currently on his list.
"There’s a wealth of material there, and I’m still writing more....At the moment, we still have this show to finish, and I still have two more books to finish.”
Hopefully, Martin has a talented writer in his bloodline because at the pace he's writing, there's no way in hell he's finishing two books before his death.
I think it would be cool to see a prequel to the series just to see the world under the Mad King and Eddard Stark at his peak, but I would be more interested in a "tales of Westeros" series. There's plenty of stuff mentioned in passing in the books that would make for some entertaining one-off episodes!
