George Miller’s Aborted JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL Will Be Subject of New Documentary
George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the biggest and most talked about films of the year. That movie turned out to be extremely awesome, and it left many fans wondering what his Justice League: Mortal film would have ended up being like had it actually happened.
Miller started working on developing Justice League: Mortal for Warner Bros. back in 2009, and like many of you I was excited about it! I was more excited about that version of the film than I am about the upcoming Justice League movies being developed by Zack Snyder.
The Justice League: Mortal cast included Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger) as Batman, Adam Brody (The OC) as Wally West/The Flash, Megan Gale (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Wonder Woman, D.J. Cotrona (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) as Superman, Jay Baruchel (This is the End) as Maxwell Lord, Common as John Stewart/Green Lantern, and Hugh Keays-Byrne (Mad Max: Fury Road) as the Martian Manhunter. The development of the film fell apart after having production location issues, and then there was the Writers' Strike, which was the final nail in the coffin.
Director Ryan Unicomb is looking to shed some more light on the production, give us some additional insight into where the film was headed, and explain in more detail what killed it. In an interview with Inside Film, he said:
“I have always been fascinated with project, which would be in the same vein as 2013’s Jodorowsky’s Dune and this year’s The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?, about a Superman movie that Tim Burton was to direct in the 1990s.”
Unicomb has already gathered a team of producers, writers, and investors to help bring the documentary to life, but there’s a chance that he may also start a crowd-funding campaign to help push the project forward.
I’m totally interested in seeing a documentary on this subject matter. I’d love to learn all there is to know about this project. It’s one of those what if films I would have loved to see get made, and this documentary might be the next best thing.
