GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot Gets THE HEAT Screenwriter - All Female Cast Confirmed
This third Ghostbusters movie is still moving forward very slowly. Bridesmaids director Paul Feig is currently attached to direct the movie, and he has hired his co-writer from The Heat, Katie Dippold, to work on the script for his Ghostbusters film, which is now apparently being called a reboot. In case you forgot The Heat is the action-comedy that starred Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, I didn't care for that movie at all, but there are some people that found it funny.
There was a previous rumor that the new Ghostbusters would revolve around a female team and it would no longer be connected to the earlier movies. Instead it will start a whole new story which is absolutely ridiculous. I hate that Ghostbusters could fall victim to a reboot/remake. I'd be fine with a third movie, but rebooting the whole franchise just makes me sad. Ghostbusters is one of those movies that should never ever be put in that situation.
Dan Aykroyd shut the rumor of the all female cast down though, saying that it wouldn't happen until a third or forth film in a Marvel-style connected universe that he is looking to create for the franchise. But then you have Feig hire this writer, and all of a sudden I'm thinking that maybe they are going to try and move forward with a female-led cast.
At this point anything can happen with this movie, whatever it ends up being all I can hope for is that it will have the same spirit, humor and awesomeness as the original. I know it's a lot to ask for, but a guy can dream.
Updated with tweet from the director confirming everything:
"It's official. I'm making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That's who I'm gonna call."
