GREEN ROOM Director Casts Jeffrey Wright, Alexander Skarsgard, and More in Netflix Thriller HOLD THE DARK
If you've seen Green Room and Blue Ruin, you know exactly what kind of brutal, punk rock potboilers that filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier is capable of making. The director has lined up a new movie called Hold the Dark that he'll direct for Netflix (read all about that here), and now he's locked down some super talented cast members to star.
THR reports that Westworld star Jeffrey Wright, True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard, and 13 Hours actor James Badge Dale have joined Riley Keough (The Girlfriend Experience) and newcomer James Bloor in the Alaskan thriller.
The movie begins as wolves have stolen and killed three children from a remote Alaskan village, and a wolf-expert biologist is called in to investigate. The biologist learns a horrifying secret from the mother of one of the children, and when the woman's husband returns home to discover his boy dead and his wife missing, he begins a maniacal pursuit that cuts a bloody swath across the frozen landscape. Keough will play the mother, Wright will play the biologist, Skarsgard will play the maniacal husband, and Badge Dale is lined up to play a detective hoping to catch him. (Bloor, a rookie actor we don't know much about, is set to appear in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and will play a creepy drifter in Hold the Dark.)
Macon Blair, Saulnier's long-time collaborator, wrote the screenplay for this movie. He just wrote and directed a film for Netflix called I don't feel at home in this world anymore., and it's a tight little thriller that bodes well for his future endeavors. This should be a dark, violent shocker in line with Saulnier's other movies, and I'm stoked to see how it turns out. Filming starts next month with Canada doubling for Alaska.
