GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 Footage Won Hall H
I think it's unanimous amongst the GeekTyrant Hall H team, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was the best footage we saw all day. That's saying a lot when we saw Wonder Woman, Justice League, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Doctor Strange ALL IN ONE AFTERNOON!
So let's start with the footage, which unfortunately isn't online yet. I'll try to do justice with my description though...
The scene opens with Rocket and Yondu in a jail cell while the Ravagers wonder what to do with them. A soldier asks what they do with the other prisoner and if he can squish him, the guard declares he's wayyyy too cute to be destroyed. We then see the prisoner hold up a birdcage which has Baby Groot looking like an infant with well-developed legs. Groot manages to escape his cage, and we go through a sequence of Yondu and Rocket trying to explain to Groot what "prototype" they need and him bringing things that are wrong beyond belief.
Finally, they get the right thing and start blaring "Come a Little Bit Closer" by Jay and the Americans, and Yondu starts obliterating people with his upgraded whistling arrow and a bitching red metal mohawk on his head. It's literally raining enemies getting taken out by the arrow as all three walk out. Groot spots a prisoner that was mean to him and goes after him in an adorable way and beats the hell out of him.
That's the end of the first clip. The cast comes out, and it is revealed that Yondu is now officially a part of the team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we also get the introduction to Mantis in addition to the original cast returning. Oh yeah and KURT RUSSELL IS CONFIRMED AS STAR-LORD'S DAD. Don't even try to say that's a spoiler as it's going to be in the trailer when you see it, so just accept it. After some banter that really didn't reveal anything we're into the actual trailer which looks like this...
The Guardians are kicking ass and taking names. They're now known throughout the galaxy as protectors and are living the good life. We see a lot of ass kicking quick shots, and then get to the main focus of the story. Star-Lord meets his dad (Kurt Russell) and has his mind blown wide open. Drax makes reference to Kurt Russell's penis, and it's pretty hilarious.
The second trailer is tough to break down because it's entirely out of sequence and essentially just a bunch of action sequences. What you need to take away from all this is that the movie is everything you could want and more. If you like the first one, this one is like the first on steroids with an adorable baby Groot. I can't get past how cute Groot is!
So there's my description... I know it's shitty, but trust me when I say this footage won Comic-Con for the day. There wasn't a person not on their feet at the end! Let's hope you guys get to see this trailer soon!
