HAMILTON Creator Lin-Manuel Miranda Wrote New Cantina Music For THE FORCE AWAKENS

I haven't seen the mega-hit Broadway show Hamilton yet, but it has incredible word of mouth and a soundtrack that is driving people crazy (the show tells the story of Alexander Hamilton through hip-hop music). You can listen to the score through Spotify if you haven't heard it, though I'm waiting for the show to come to Los Angeles so I can see it in person. The musical is the brainchild of Lin-Manuel Miranda, and on The Tonight Show last night, J.J. Abrams revealed that he collaborated with Miranda on new music for Star Wars: The Force Awakens — and it's going to appear in their version of the cantina scene from the original film:

J.J. Abrams talks to Jimmy about how a chance meeting with Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda turned into a Star Wars: The Force Awakens collaboration.

Miranda jumped on Twitter to elaborate a little bit further:

It's cool that J.J. also worked a little bit of his own musical skills in there, too. You may know that he created the opening theme music for LOST and you might remember he plays the keyboard from this video that dropped a few years ago:

Here's the song we made for the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. Featuring Will Ferrell and JJ Abrams. Originally Aired 5/31/09

So there you have it: yet another reason to be excited about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Guess what? It's officially December, so the movie comes out this month!
