Harrison Ford Discusses Han Solo in THE FORCE AWAKENS and Returning to INDIANA JONES

With the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens issue of EW being released we are sure to have a lot of news coming in over the next couple days or so regarding the highly anticipated film. We've already seen four covers for the magazine, and now we have some quotes from Harrison Ford talking about his iconic character Han Solo along with a couple new photos. He said that it was fun to step back into the role and that he was glad that the character was still alive for him to play in this new film.

Ford explained that Solo's character is consistent with the character we came to know in love in the original trilogy:

“There’s not an abandoning of the character. He does not aspire to the position of Obi-‘Ben’ Kenobi, nor do I aspire to be some New Age Alec Guinness. His development is consistent with the character, and there are emotional elements which have occasioned his growth.”

The actor then reveals that after all these years of growth, Solo still really hasn't mastered the basic skills of life:

“We spend a lot more time [in the movie] on his failure to master basic skills, like accounting, and accounting for his own behavior. There’s a lot of the rogue still left in Solo. Some things don’t change.”

The subject of the standalone Han Solo movie came up. The movie is being scripted by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan and will be directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord. The film is scheduled for released on May 25th, 2018 release, but as we suspected, Ford won't really have any part of it. When asked if Lucasfilm had approached him about the film, he said:

“I think they’re probably talking to the young Han Solo.”

Ford then went on to offer some advice to whichever new young actor steps into the role.

“I would say, ‘Talk to your director. Watch the movies. And welcome aboard. Make it your own.’”

The conversation moved away from Star Wars and onto Indiana Jones, which is another iconic role that we all loved Ford in. He's asked if he’d be up for returning to the role in Indiana Jones 5, and this was his enthusiastic reply:

“Oh, yeah. Yeah, I’d love to do another Indiana Jones. A character that has a history and a potential, kind of a rollicking good movie ride for the audience, Steven Spielberg as a director — what’s not to like?”

Well, did you see Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? There's a lot not to like there. But if Lucas isn't involved, then I'm sure they'll come up with a fifth film that fans will enjoy.

We'll get to see Ford back in action as Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens when it's released on December 18th!
