Henry Cavill Says BATMAN V SUPERMAN Won't Address People's Issues With MAN OF STEEL

If it's anything like Man of Steel, Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is going to be a hugely divisive movie when it finally comes out in March. Like most of you, I've been following the project's development since it was first announced, and despite the filmmakers' attempts to convince me this isn't the case, it seems to me like this movie is absolutely a response to the negative issues people had with Man of Steel. Everyone complained about the excessive violence and utter destruction of Metropolis, so this movie includes the revelation that Bruce Wayne was there on the ground during that event, using it as part of the reason he doesn't trust Superman. Sounds like a pretty direct response to me.

But Henry Cavill is the latest to say that this movie won't intentionally touch on people's issues with the 2013 superhero movie. He tells Cineplex:

“The reception of my first Superman movie, from what I’ve read, was fairly mixed. Everyone I’ve spoken to enjoyed the movie, but [not] unlike if you’re going to meet a stranger in the street, they’re not going to badmouth you to your face. There’s no intentional move, I don’t think, in Batman v. Superman to address any issues that people had with Man of Steel. It’s just a continuation of that storyline and they continue to develop that world and introduce new characters.”

OK then. I don't believe he's lying here, and he would certainly know better than I would since he's presumably at least spoken with the writers about this, but I can't quite shake the idea that this movie seems almost entirely like a reaction to Man of Steel. Not only the aspect I mentioned before, but from a financial perspective, it didn't perform as well as WB would have liked, so what's the best way to try to make a larger profit without embarrassingly rebooting the whole franchise again? Include Batman and Wonder Woman, and just kick it to an entirely different level. I suppose we'll see how it all turns out when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives on March 25th.
