During the Game of Thrones panel at San Diego Comic-Con, HBO released this "in-production tease" video that gives the best look I've seen at what the pre-production period actually looks like for a show of this magnitude. I've been a part of several film and TV productions myself, and this showcase of the nitty gritty type of work that goes into crafting the lavish sets and the memorable moments are the kinds of things that most people don't even think about when they're caught up in the story.
