Here's What Wolverine is Up to in LOGAN, and Some Other Plot Details
Earlier this morning, the release of a new poster taught us that James Mangold's Wolverine 3 is now officially called Logan. The movie marks the last time Hugh Jackman will don the claws in a role he's been playing for sixteen years now, so interest is obviously pretty high at this point. Warning: spoilers ahead for those who don't want to know anything about the movie.
The Wrap has reported some plot details about the movie — some we knew from Mangold's script reveal and some that are new to us. Aside from saying that the movie is darker than any X-Men movie we've seen thus far and that it takes place in the future (which we've known for months), they dropped these tidbits:
Logan takes place in the year 2024...Old Man Logan is in full effect. Logan looks bad, and drinks a lot. For work, he drives a 2024 Chrysler 300 limo that looks modified in the front to look more futuristic. He’s sick, his powers are fading, and he heals much more slowly — and sometimes not at all.
We learned further details about the from an insider who said that the girl in the poster is a young mutant. In 2024, mutant births are severely in decline, and people aren’t sure why. We find out about a government-type operation called “Transigen” that is turning mutant children into killing machines. Logan ends up mentoring the girl, who has two claws instead of his three.
That girl sounds an awful lot like X-23, who's been rumored to show up in this movie since back in April. The Wrap's report also says that Professor X is "old and not well," so much so that his powers are "unstable" and he often forgets who Logan is. Finally, they reveal that actor Stephen Merchant will be playing a mutant named Caliban, who helps Wolverine take care of Professor X. (Read more about that character from the comics here.) What do you think about these newly-revealed details?
Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
